Clinical Nutrition
Includes the use of specialized diets and food plans, as well as nutritional supplements such as vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other nutraceuticals.
Botanical/Herbal Medicine
Plants have been used in healing since the beginnings of civilization. Many modern pharmaceuticals are derived from plants or are synthetic versions of compounds found in plants. NDs use tinctures, teas, capsules and other forms of herbs for their healing effects and nutritional value.
Homeopathy
Based on the principle of "like cures like", with theory grounded in quantum physics, homeopathy uses minute amounts of natural substances to stimulate the self-healing abilities of the body.
Physical Therapy
A variety of chiropractic-type adjustments are used on the spine, joints and soft tissues. Physical Therapy can also include hydrotherapy , heat and cold, and massage treatments
Asian Medicine & Acupuncture
Based on the balance of Qi (energy), yin and yang through the meridian pathways of the body. Acupuncture is a relatively painless process, and involves the insertion of tiny needles along the body’s meridians. Treatment also can include the use of Oriental herbs.
Lifestyle Counselling
Physical, emotional, nutritional and environmental factors affect health. Patients are guided in the right direction, and are encouraged to make informed choices to reach and optimal health.
In addition to standard blood and laboratory tests done by all physicians, the following types of tests are also available with Dr. Derry:
Food Sensitivity Testing: measures the amount of antibodies produced in your body in response to certain foods. Ninety six different foods are generally tested. These antibodies that occur after ingestion of certain foods can lead to either immediate symptoms (airway congestion, itchy watery eyes, runny nose, skin reactions, etc) or delayed symptoms (headaches, asthma, digestive disturbances, frequent infections, skin conditions, joint problems, swelling, etc)
Salivary Hormone Testing: used to uncover hormone imbalances by measuring the amount of bio-available hormones in your tissues, rather than how much is floating around in your blood. Can test stress hormones (cortisol and DHEAS), as well as male/female hormones (estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, hormone ratios, DHEAS)
Estrogen Metabolism Ratio: looks at how estrogen is being broken down by your body. Maintaining proper balance of estrogen metabolites in your body is essential for good health, and knowing the metabolite levels in your body can give insight on breast cancer risk, as well as gynecological conditions.
Urinary Thyroid Test: since urine is collected over a 24 hour period, this test gives an idea of how the thyroid gland functions over a span of time, whereas thyroid blood test is a measure of function at a particular moment. Tests urinary T3, T4 and selenium (a cofactor necessary for thyroid function)
Essential Fatty Acid Test: measures the balance between Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. Balancing this ratio can lead to improvements in diseases associated with inflammation such as cancer, arthritis, heart disease, asthma, and diabetes
Hair or Urine Element Analysis: this test uses a hair or urine sample to detect toxins and heavy metals in the body. Also measures beneficial elements such as iron and copper.
